MTRI March Break Day

It is almost March, and you know what that means! MTRI’s March Break Day is back and ready to get you and your family outside enjoying nature in Kespukwitk, Southwest Nova Scotia! This year we are heading to Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site on March 12 for an afternoon of free activities with two family-focused events.

MTRI March Break Day, March 12, 2022

First Event:

Let’s Have a Look:

Getting to Know Nature Family Activity, 1 – 2 PM.

The wildlife species we usually think about are only a tiny portion of Kespukwitk’s (SW Nova Scotia) true biodiversity! Luckily, we have the tools to view this hidden world. Join us for a short forest walk, hands-on learning activity, crafts and discussions with a local ecologist. We will use Foldscopes, paper microscopes, to investigate the microscopic world and see the wildlife around us in a new light.

Register (on EventBrite) for Let’s Have a Look: Getting to Know Nature Family Activity

If this event becomes full and we still have people wanting to attend, we will open another session in the morning from 11 – 12 AM on March 12. This session will have the same activities as the afternoon session. Please let Chad Simmons know if the event is full and you are interested in attending the morning session.

Second Event

Tour Through Grafton Woods, 2:30 – 3:30 PM

Come along as we wander through the towering pines, gnarled beech and wetlands of Grafton Woods during this interpretive walk. We will discuss wildlife, species at risk, conservation and research happening in the park and with MTRI.

Both events will have activities for all age groups so everyone can enjoy!

Safety is our top concern, and our event will be following Covid-19 guidelines. This will include social distancing between family bubbles, requiring masks when distancing is not possible and following occupancy limits when indoors. Registration is required for all events. Please register enough tickets for your whole group (not just one for the group).

Detailed event information, including meeting locations and reminders, will be sent once you register and closer to March 12. In the event of severe weather, our storm day will be Saturday, March 19.

If you have any questions, please email Chad Simmons (MTRI Communication Officer)s.
