SNBRA’s Blanding’s Turtle day
The Community Outreach Team held a two day event at Oaklawn Farm Zoo in Aylesford, Nova Scotia. The event was to celebrate the successful hatching of approximately 50 Blandings Turtles, an endangered species in the province.
The turtle eggs were taken from Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site and incubated at Oaklawn Farm Zoo. These hatchlings are being taken to the Toronto Zoo to be raised for a few years to become bigger and stronger before they are released back into the wild at Keji. The Community Outreach team educated visitors to the Zoo about the Biosphere Reserve, the “toonie sized” turtles, and what they can do to help.
