In 2013, a multidisciplinary group of Government NGO, idealists, and the community of WestPort, NS started a campaign to restore the Big Meadow Bog, located on Brier Island.

The bog is home to the endangered Eastern Mountain Avens, a perennial herb producing small yellow flowers from June to September.

The Eastern Mountain Avens is a small arctic plant known only to be found on Brier Island, the end of Digby Neck, and in New Hampshire. It is the rarest plant in Eastern Canada.

The video details the causes leading to the loss of suitable habitat for the Eastern Mountain Avens, and steps taken to remedy the situation.

Narration by Nick Hill, Co-ordinator Southwest Nova Biosphere. Nick was a participant in efforts to encourage the regrowth of the Eastern Mountain Avens in the bog.
